AVL Compu-Dobby Weaving

This is an informative AVL loom weaving opportunity taught by professional dobby loom weaver Jannie Taylor. Jannie will present a well-rounded learning experience on the AVL that includes AVL mechanics and advanced techniques. Emphasis will be on loom set-up, ease and use of the AVL systems, and various trouble shooting aspects unique to the compu-dobby loom. This session will also include warping the AVL and incorporating the warping wheel into the weaving process. Participants will walk away with a complete understanding of this state-of-the-art loom.

Hands on Color: A Practical Exploration of Color, Fiber, and Weaving
with Cameron Taylor Brown

Dive up to your elbows into big piles of luscious yarns and discover the exciting world of color in this hands-on exploration. This workshop explores the glorious color components of hue, value, and intensity - while noting the added effects of fiber and yarn texture. You create harmonious color compositions while learning the language of monochromatic, analogous and complementary color relationships. Then experiment with how colors mix in plain, twill and satin structures and create fabrics with your new color, fiber and weave vocabulary. By the end of the workshop you’ll have a confident "eye for color" and a notebook overflowing with beautiful color combinations and original designs.

Extreme Warp Makeover
with Robyn Spady

Hate to warp, but love to weave? Want more versatility from a single warp? Then this is a workshop for you! In this workshop, participants will warp their loom with their choice of one of three four-shaft threadings and perform an extreme makeover and weave it many different ways . . . from twill, lace, and overshot to swivel, corduroy, deflected weft, and double-faced. At the same time, participants are presented with the basics of different structures and how to adapt a single threading to weave a number of different weaves, including concepts such as star vs. rose fashion, weaving on opposites, and echo treadling.
