Scandinavian Rag Rug III
The emphasis on design in this class expands upon what students learned in Scandinavian Rag Rug II.  The goal for the student is to be challenged in planning a successful design using a creative process.  Students will present their design plans to the group.  Rugs will be woven using Finnish seine twine warp sett at 5 epi.  Students will wind warps and warp looms at the Guild prior to the second session.  Warp can be purchased from the instructor.  Students provide fabric for weft.  Plan to spend time weaving on Thursday during the week of class.

Scandinavian Rag Rug I

In this class, students will learn to wind a warp, warp a floor loom, and weave a rug. Creating a durable rug is important and students will be taught specific weaving techniques to accomplish this goal. Students will learn how to select fabric, prepare fabric for weaving, and finish ends. Rugs will be woven in plain weave with a sett of five ends per inch using Finnish cotton seine twine as warp and cotton fabric strips as weft. Bring any fabrics you are thinking of using in your rug to the first class. Students should expect to spend time weaving at the Guild in between classes in order to complete their rug.
Prerequisite: Students must have acess to and be able to use a sewing machine

Beginning Rag Rug Weaving
Learn the basics of rag rug weaving and make a 2x3” rag rug using 2 shaft, plain weave structure! Learn loom/weaving terminology and rag preparation. Learn to use a warping board, dress a floor loom, read a draft, weave with fabric strips, and finish a rug with fringe or a hem. Fabric selection and preparation and use of color will be addressed. The first evening is an informational session. Carpet warp may be purchased at the Guild. Students will supply recycled or new fabric. Suggested but not required: Rag Rug Handbook by Janet Meaney and Paula Pfaff (available at the Guild).

NEW Weave Double Seed with Rags
Continue exploring rag weaving using a four shaft floor loom. This is a fun and creative class for students wishing to move beyond beginning. The double seed design is a basic weave structure that forms a color 'chicken track' pattern in the warp. The instructor will guide you through the process, as well as review winding the warp, reading a draft, dressing the loom, and preparing fabric.  Weaving a handwoven rug is a work of art. Enjoy the details and splendor of creating your own 2 x 3' rag rug. Carpet warp may be purchased at the Guild. Students will supply recycled or new fabric.

Rosepath Rag Placemats
The Rosepath pattern is an elegant point twill variation. As a group, this round robin class will select warp colors and students will each warp a loom in a Rosepath variation. The instructor will assist the group with warping, reading the draft, and selecting rags, as well as provide a demonstration on the Rosepath weave. Students will need to come in outside of class time to weave a placemat in the selected variations. Prerequistie: Students must be able to warp a loom and read a draft independently.

NEW Three Shuttles and Cotton Bias Cut Rug
Instructor Nedra Granquist shares her 20 years of experience weaving this fun and inspiring technique. Learn to incorporate three shuttles, sometimes having many fabrics on one shuttle and select fabrics to create gradations of color. Students can choose sheets or yardage to be sewn together and cut on the bias. The entire class meets to warp the Toika loom. Individual loom time will be scheduled to weave a 2.5 x 5' rug. Students will share the cost of seine twine warp and will be expected to come in outside of classtime to weave. Hemming will be included.
