Member Meetings
Join us on May 8 for our annual Guild potluck and celebration! This Meeting promises to be a treat for all five senses -- see and touch the gorgeous items woven and spun by fellow Guild members, listen to a year-in-review presentation, and smell and taste the wonderful food that always makes this one of the most festive Meetings of the year. Show-and-tell is going to be a major feature of the May Meeting: we'll have a Weave a Sweater fashion show, a collection of rep weave and shadow weave projects, and a look at the fabulous linens made in response to the Weavers Towel Challenge.
Member meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, September through May. Most meetings feature informational lectures by local and national fiber artists, but other meetings are simply fun-filled times for Guild members to show each other their work. Social hour begins at 6:30 pm and meetings begin at 7:00 pm. Guests are always welcome.

Last Thursday Lunches

Last Thursday Lunches are opportunities for members to gather informally to talk about weaving and share their latest projects with each other. All members are invited and are encouraged to attend. The gatherings take place between 11 am and 1 pm on the last Thursday of each month. Members should bring a lunch, a weaving question, their latest project, and can arrive and leave when it is convenient for them.
Upcoming lunch dates are: May 29, June 26, July 31, and August 28.
Convergence 2008
Save the date for the Handweavers Guild of America's Convergence on June 25-28, 2008 in Tampa Bay, Florida! Convergence is a gathering of fiber artists taking place every other year. Over 200 workshops, seminars, and lectures will be presented by weaving, spinning, and dyeing experts from around the world. Once again members of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota will demonstrate weaving and spinning at the Minnesota State Fair: August 21 - September 1, 2008. All members are invited to demonstrate. Look for us in the Creative Activities building near the Snelling Avenue entrance.
The Guild sponsors 8 special $25 awards given to outstanding weavers in all weaving categories (see State Fair Creative Activities Premium Book, published in May). To learn more about the Fair, please visit their website.
Minnesota Federation of Weavers
The Minnesota Federation of Weavers' annual conference takes place this year October 17-19, 2008 at Mount Carmel Bible Camp in Alexandria, MN. This year's keynote speaker is Dennis Matter, owner of Cedar Point Merinos in Delano, MN. Dennis has been shepherding since 1991 and has held sheering day festivals and participated in the Crow River Lamb and Wool Producers Group, many fairs, and Shepherd's Harvest. In addition to Dennis' presentation, Federation offers a wide array of classes and events for weavers and spinners alike. To learn more about Federation or to register, please visit their website.
